Counseling Services

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a process in which clients learn how to make decisions and formulate new ways of behaving, feeling, and thinking.

Who Can Receive Counseling?
Counseling is conducted with persons who are considered to function within the “normal range”. Clients have adjustment, development, or situational concerns; and their problems require short-term intervention. They are not considered “sick” but “stuck”. Sometimes they just need information, but usually they are looking for a way to clarify and use the information they already possess. The client(s) may be an individual, couple or family within or outside the church community.

What Issues Can Be Dealt With?
• Guidance issues (in decision-making)
• Personal issues
• Social/relationship issues
• Marital/family issues
• Work/career issues, etc.

How Long Will It Take?
6 to 10 sessions spread over a period of two to four months. Each session lasts between one to one-and-a-half hours.

Is There a Fee for Counseling?
No fee is charged.

What Is the Background of the Counselor?
Lianne Lee is a full-time staff of DUMC who holds the portfolio of Assistant Director of Training. She is currently a Masters in Counseling candidate doing her counseling internship programme.

Will Referrals Be Made?
Referrals to other counselors may be made in cases where the counselor is unable to provide the type of treatment needed by the client.
